Colour coded flanges minimize mismating

M12 flanges from ESCHA are now available with colour coded contact carriers to allow intuitive mating by the installer.

Halver, 28 April 2009 - Modern installations typically have a large number of bulkhead receptacles for different terminal devices. Unfortunately, it is not always immediately obvious, which flange is intended for which field bus system. Although it is possible to differentiate flanges based on their coding, the danger of mismating still exists. For example, a flange with A-type coding can be used for either the field bus system CANopen or DeviceNet. Therefore, the coding does not provide 100 percent protection against mismating.

The market demand for an adequate solution is not new. That is why the connector specialist ESCHA now offers flanges with colour coded contact carriers for optimum mating with the corresponding field bus system. For example, the contact carrier for Ethernet flanges might be green, and the corresponding Profibus flange would be violet.

In other words, the new flanges can be adapted to the respective field bus system for intuitive mating by the installer. This not only minimizes the risk of mismating, but also increases transparency within the installation. The result is faster and more economical wiring, which saves the customer money.

The new flanges are available starting immediately as a male and female version in size M12x1. In addition to the standard colour black, the A-, B- and D-coded bulkhead receptacles are available in five additional colours (violet, green, blue, yellow and grey). ESCHA therefore has the right colour for every application. Like the standard products, the flanges with colour coded contact carriers are also available in different polarities, depending on the specific application. Of course, the colour coded models also conform to the requirements of the IP67 protection class.
