ESCHA solves one of the last problems with connection technology
The world's first connector with integrated torque is now available.
Halver, 16 June 2009 - As already announced at the last SPS/IPC/DRIVES, the new M12Nm connector is now available from connectivity and enclosure specialist ESCHA. The new M12Nm is revolutionising the market for connection technology by being the first connector to indicate when it is tight even without a torque wrench. The integrated torque control system ensures that the connection is sealed in accordance with the IP67 protection class, meaning it can be used industrially.
The launch of the world's first M12 round connector with integrated torque brings a whole product family onto the market. The new M12Nm is available as a male and female, straight or angled and as 3, 4 and 5 pin versions.
The fundamental problem with connection technology has been solved
The market has been looking for a connector which can be assembled to be 100% tight without even using a torque wrench for quite some time. Experience has shown time and again that a tool is only prescribed or used in a minority of cases. Up until now it had not been possible to say for certain whether a connector was really assembled to the prescribed torque and consequently whether the required pressure on the O-ring had been achieved. Consequently, the connection was either too tight or not tight enough. As the O-ring can be ruined if the connector is over tightened, both conditions mean imperfect connections.
There are, therefore, approaches whereby the O-ring cannot be damaged through excessive tightening. But this still does not solve the fundamental probelm. Even here and in the case of similar attempts to resolve the problem, it is not possible to ascertain whether the connection creates a perfect seal without using a torque wrench.
ESCHA took on this challenge and in the M12Nm has found the solution for the fundamental problem in the connection technology industry today, namely a round connector which indicates when it is tight. The special feature of the new M12Nm with defined torque is that it can be tightened by hand resulting in perfect seal. The integrated torque control system ensures that even without a tool the connection is sealed in accordance with the IP67 protection class, thereby increasing safety in the application.
How does the M12Nm work?
The way the M12Nm works is as simple as it is brilliant: first the male or female connector is connected with the opposing piece. Then the plastic union nut is tightened by hand. As soon as the pre-defined torque has been reached, the union nut rotates freely. The user receives a clear haptic and acoustic signal and knows that the connection is now tight. In addition, no further compression can be applied.
The new M12Nm with defined torque is available now in the styles, and with the number of pins, mentioned above. |
